Incompatibility between VAKA Java/PC client and Java 17

Since the 7th of December 2022, the option to upgrade JVM runtime to 17.0.5 has been an option when launching a JNLP file from OpenWebStart.

Since JVM runtime 17.0.5 is not compatible with the current VAKA version, can VAKA Java/PC client not be started after such update.

Below are instructions to start VAKA Java/PC client after upgrading JVM runtime to 17.0.5.

Internet connection is required from the computer.

Edit JNLP file

  1. In Windows explorer, navigate to c:\users\<user>\.axema\vaka
  2. Delete the bin folder.
  3. Download a new JNLP file from the VAKA system. I.e. http://<the IP address of the system>/jnlp. Save the file in in a suitable location.
  4. Open the JNLP file from Notepad.
  5. Lovate the row whith the text <j2se version="1.8+"></j2se>.
  6. Erase the + character to have the result <j2se version="1.8"></j2se>.
  7. Save and close the JNLP file.
  8. Run (double click) the edited JNLP file by OPenWebStart.
  9. Answer Yes if the question to download a 1.8 version of Java is aked.
  10. Close the Java/PC client when it has started.

Edit OpenWebStart

Instructions below are to block the option to upgrade JVM runtime to not compatible versions.

  1. Make sure that the VAKA Java/PC clint is closed.
  2. Fro the Start menu, open OpenWebStart Settings.
  3. In the left menu, select JVM Manager.
  4. Find the row that begins with 17.0.5.
  5. Clock the three dots to the right of that row.
  6. Seleck Remove JVM.
  7. Click the Settings... button in the lower right corner.
  8. Change Update strategy to Do not download any version.
  9. Click OK ->Apply-
  10. Click OK to close OpenWebStart.

After these actions, OpenWebStart will not inform if update of JVM runtime is available.

Start the VAKA Java/PC client.

After following the instructions above, the JAVA/PC client is started using the icon on the desktop.
